3 Coffee-Based Treats to Kick Off Winter

Your favorite drink has a variety of uses. You might turn to a cup of coffee to start your day, take a break at work or unwind in the evening. It can also act as one of the main ingredients in some of the best-tasting treats of the season. After all, the only thing better than coffee with your dessert is a coffee-infused treat. Brew a classic roast with the Mr. Coffee® 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker + Hot Shot Station to create the perfect coffee to use in the following sweet and energizing indulgences.

1. Coffee Shortcake
This treat only requires a few ingredients and steps, and zero time in the oven. Serve it to guests after dinner for a simple yet tasty dessert.


  • 1 tub Cool Whip
  • 1 pound cake loaf
  • 1 pot fresh brewed coffee
  • Chocolate syrup

In a large bowl, mix Cool Whip and hot coffee together until they're well blended. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until the mixture cools. Cut pound cake loaf into thin slices and place in the toaster if you'd like a warm treat to keep cozy during the cold winter months. Serve one piece of cake with a dollop of the coffee mixture for each guest. Drizzle with chocolate syrup, and enjoy!

2. Mocha fondue
Create this coffee-infused fondue that's perfect for dipping fruit, cake, cookies and anything else that could use a touch of mocha. It's a must-have at your upcoming holiday party!


  • 1 bag chocolate chips
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 pot fresh brewed coffee
  • Assorted fruit, for dipping
  • Cookies, for dipping

Combine chocolate chips and condensed milk in a large saucepan and stir continuously over low heat until chocolate melts. Add in coffee as desired, and continue stirring. Place in a large bowl for serving, and keep fruit and cookies close​-by for dipping. 

3. Coffee frosting
If some of your guests prefer chocolate frosting and others vanilla, why not decide on a flavor they can all agree on? Try this coffee frosting recipe for a tasty spread that uses everyone's favorite drink.


  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brewed coffee
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Coffee beans, for garnish

In a large bowl, mix together sugar, butter, coffee and vanilla, and beat with a mixer until smooth. Add more sugar or coffee as desired. Spread on top of preferred dessert, and garnish with several coffee beans.
