How to Invent Your Own Signature Coffee Drink

All coffee lovers have a favorite kind of coffee that gets them out of bed every morning. However, it takes a more advanced type of java aficionado to experiment with different ingredients and come up with a special recipe of his or her own.

How do you get to that level? With experience and a knack for knowing what flavors mix well together. It also requires a great deal of trial and error, so don't get discouraged if you don't know where to begin. Brew a big batch of coffee with your Mr. Coffee® Optimal Brew™ 10-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker and start testing out different drinks until you find one that truly speaks to you.

Start With What You Know
Some of the greatest inventions in food and drink come from slight variations of the classics. For instance, if you love a good, foamy cappuccino but want to create a specialty drink of your own, start with that drink as a foundation. Then add some of your favorite ingredients to it, or simply try it at a different temperature. You'd be surprised how different your favorite coffee drink can taste with one or two small changes.

Celebrating the end of summer? Use that as inspiration.Make a summer drink with coconut.

Follow a Theme
There's never an excuse to be stuck in a coffee rut. If you're having trouble deciding how exactly to spice up a regular brew, just consider working it in with a theme. Is there a holiday coming up? Is there a big football game or awards show that calls for a party with fun snacks and drinks? Let these events inspire you to craft a unique, tasty drink. For example, if you're trying to celebrate the last beach day of the season, experiment with citrus in your coffee. Add in some coconut milk and serve over ice.

Mix Different Blends
When you're creating a new coffee drink, the opportunities are endless. Don't feel constricted to ingredients that you add after the coffee is done brewing. Try mixing different coffee beans together and using a grinder to get the freshest, best taste from your beans. You can also toss some additional ingredients, like cinnamon sticks, into your grinder for an even bolder flavor. Get creative and try out different approaches until you land the best tasting coffee. You'll know when you find the one, and it will be that much more rewarding to know that you came up with it yourself!
