SimpleWhat does a coffee maker need to do? Make water hot and mix that water with coffee which results in the morning beverage. I gave away many gift coffee makers over the years. Why? Too complicated. This model has one switch, on-off. Load it at night, switch it on when I wake. Too easy. I do not want another item in my life with a computer. I hope Mr. Coffee keeps the concept of the tried and true (and trouble free) on-off switch alive and well for years to come. Hey, they don't last forever, but they do last a long time, and for the money vs. the fancy models, I can afford a new one when this dies.

Design flawsIt seems to brew ok, but has a few design flaws that make it inconvenient to use.
1. When I fill the pot with water to 6 cups, and pour it in, it reaches 8 cups on the numbers printed on the side.. when it finishes brewing, it is 6 cups in the pot.
2. When it has been on for about 30 minutes, steam starts to condense between the filter basket and the body of the coffee maker, so when you pull the pot out, it dumps about 2 tbsp of clear water right on the hotplate. (It's not coffee from inside the basket.) If the space below the filter basket was sloped, this wouldn't happen.
3. When you open the lid after brewing, water that condensed on the inside of the lid rolls down on to the countertop, due to the irregular shape of the lid.
Additionally, it really should have an auto shutoff. They're not expensive to implement these days. I wouldn't buy this particular model again, and would consider other brands more than before.

coffee grounds in coffeeBad design. This extender arm that disperses the water over the coffee does not extend far enough and when the water comes out, it often dribbles down the side of it then catches the coffee filter making it collapse. Once that happens, coffee grounds seep into the basket and into the pot. Has happened NUMEROUS times. We've tried multiple brands of filters. And it's worth the fewer cups of coffee you make because this collapsing will happen more frequently without grounds holding the filter more upgright. No other coffee maker we've bought ever did this.

Easy to use but a major defect in the base plateI have purchased these simple Mr Coffee many times over the years. I don't expect them to last forever but in the last two, including this model, DW-12, the heating surface began disintegrating almost immediately, constantly generating a gritty substance. The grit rubs against the bottom of the carafe generating a most unpleasant sound and feeling (akin to the scraping of fingernails on a chalk board). I find that I have to gird myself against the sound and feel of the carafe against the hot plate every time I fill a cup. At some point (<3 years), the disintegration produces a hole in the hot plate which is why I am looking at coffee makers again although I would like to know whether Mr Coffee has corrected this defect.

piece of junkOur old Mr. Coffee machine was about 10 years old and was going just fine until I broke the glass pot and we could not find a replacement pot anywhere that would fit it....so had to go out and get a new machine. We could not find a single machine that had decent reviews so we purchased this simple one thinking what could go wrong. This is the biggest piece of junk! The saying "they don't make em like they used to" is most definitely true - it seems that everything now a days is just junk junk junk. We have had it literally for about a MONTH and I go to turn it on and all it does is make noises and steam comes out but the water does not go through the filter. Tried dumping the water out, looking to see if I could find anything - nope...tried again with same thing. I looked online and low and behold, found MANY reviews with people complaining about the same thing. Geesh guys it's just a SIMPLE coffee machine how hard could it be to make a good solid one?

Shocked about the bad reviewsWe've had ours close to a year now and have had absolutely no problems with it. My only complaint, if you want to call it that, is that the lid opens too high to be able to open under my kitchen cabinet so I have to pull it out from under it to fill. Other than that, works great and consistently makes terrific coffee.

Simple and functional !I have had good service from this coffeemaker. First one purchased was about 5-6 years ago. There were a few basic annoyances about the design that had to be worked around and once one of the inner tubes came off and spilled water on the counter (5 min, zero cost fix). Beyond that is has functioned perfectly for that time and finally stopped heating/pumping so had to get another.
I really appreciate the simple functional design. Contrary to what our culture says, not everything needs a computer to run it ! Just brew a great cup of coffee and keep it warm. I can handle the rest of the job. Thanks Mr Coffee !

Nuclear temp!I've had a DW type coffee maker for a few months. The temperature it brews at is NUCLEAR! It is so hot I get an electrical flavor.
