Cream and sugar are classic ingredients to mix into your favorite cup of coffee, but why stick to the basics? Make a great treat even better by adding some tasty enhancements in line with the approaching holidays. If you had to list some of the best tastes of the season, you'd probably mention cinnamon, peppermint, ginger and other sweet flavors. Add them to your coffee to make the perfect concoction and take the chill out of the cold winter months.

For each of the following drinks, you'll want to start with a plain cup of coffee. Prepare a batch using a device like the Mr. Coffee® Optimal Brew™ 10-Cup Thermal Coffeemaker for a rich tasting treat that's ready in seconds.

1. Cinnamon
Nothing welcomes the winter holidays like the warming taste of cinnamon. Sprinkle some into your brew and garnish with a cinnamon stick for a simple twist on a classic cup of coffee. Keep in mind that a little goes a long way. When you first try out this approach, use a small amount of the spice and gradually build your way up.

2. Eggnog
For a milky substance that mimics the consistency of cream but adds a holiday touch, try pouring some eggnog into your next batch of coffee. You can either pick up your favorite carton or make your own by combining beaten eggs, sugar, milk, a few drops of vanilla extract and a dash of nutmeg. Combined with coffee, eggnog gives you a unique taste that's perfect for the holidays.

3. Caramel Sauce
Those with an insatiable sweet tooth will love the taste of a little caramel in their coffee. Prepare a batch as you would normally, and simply add caramel sauce according to your preference. Since it's naturally very sweet, you won't even need additional cream or sugar.

4. Ginger
Why just save ginger for festive gingerbread houses? Add some ground ginger to your coffee for a spicy holiday treat. Include some cinnamon and brown sugar to amp it up even further and embrace the season with open arms.

5. Mint Syrup
You can't make it through December without seeing grocery store aisles full of candy canes. Add one to your next cup of coffee and pour in a splash of mint syrup to enjoy the holidays as they were meant to be celebrated - with lots of sugary treats!
