Choose light beans for more caffeine.
Choose a Light Roast
The lighter the bean, the more caffeine it has. That's because as a bean is roasted and gets darker in color, the energy-boosting substance is burnt off. When deciding between a dark, sweet roast and a light one, choose the latter.
Opt for Finely Ground
A greater amount of caffeine is extracted from beans the more they're ground. Take the extra few minutes it takes to grind your own beans and make sure to chop them as finely as possible to give you the greatest energy boost. Plus, you'll get a fresher cup of java. It's a win-win!
Know the Ratios
When brewing a single serve cup of coffee, you can get more caffeine out of it by pushing the right buttons. Your first instinct might be to select the largest size available, but try to control yourself. That will give you a bigger cup of coffee, but it will also include more water than a smaller cup. Instead, brew two smaller cups and drink those. You'll get a better pick-me-up.
