DIY Peppermint Mocha Coffee

This version is just the right amount of sweet, with a cool wisp of peppermint and rich chocolate flavor thanks to a combo of Dutch cocoa and dark chocolate.

DIY Peppermint Mocha Coffee

Ingredients:

  Peppermint Mocha Syrup:

  • 8 ounces whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate, finely chopped

  Mocha:

  • Ground coffee
  • 4 ounces whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons peppermint mocha (to taste)
  • Cocoa powder, for dusting (optional)

Instructions:

  Peppermint Mocha Syrup:

  1. Combine the milk and sugar in a small saucepan set over medium-low heat. Heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves. Add the cocoa powder and chopped chocolate and whisk until chocolate has melted and mixture is smooth.
  2. Remove syrup from heat and whisk in the peppermint extract. Strain into a jar or other container, cover, and refrigerate. Stir or shake before using.

  Mocha:

  1. Brew hot coffee in your Mr. Coffee coffee maker according to the machine instructions.
  2. Heat and froth the milk and peppermint mocha syrup together with a milk frother. Alternatively, you can combine in a jar, shake until frothy, and microwave for 30-60 seconds, until hot.
  3. Add ½ cup of hot coffee to a mug and top with frothed milk. Dust with cocoa powder if desired and serve immediately.
